A place to begin
Get ready for your first period
One day, you might see red or brown blood in your underwear. This may be your period. The blood comes from the uterus, a small, hollow organ in the lower abdomen. An organ is a part of your body with a particular job. The uterus is the place where a baby can grow before birth. Period blood leaves the body through the vagina, a soft passage from the uterus to an opening between the legs.
Your first period usually begins during puberty, the years when your body gradually becomes more adult. Here you can learn what periods are and how to prepare for your first period and the ones after it.
