For parents and caregivers

Healthcare and rights

Youth health clinics.

Youth health clinics are free services where teenagers can get advice about their bodies, sexual health and how they are feeling.

Understanding the situation

The service is for young people up to age 20, and some municipalities have higher age limits. Many clinics offer drop-in visits. Opening hours, staffing and available services vary locally.

Teenagers can contact the clinic without parental permission. Healthcare professionals can explain confidentiality and the rules about giving parents information. A GP may be the right person to contact about illnesses requiring medical follow-up.

Turning knowledge into action

What you can do

  • Find your municipality's age limits, address and opening hours.
  • Offer transport or accompany your teenager if they want you to.
  • Let your teenager choose whether you attend the conversation.

Find a way to start

One way to begin

“You can talk to someone who is used to questions about bodies and health. Would you like me to help find the service?”

Use your own words and give your child time to respond. A short conversation can be a good beginning.
