When it all feels too much.

Sometimes thoughts or feelings become so heavy that it is difficult to know what to do with them.

You do not have to wait until things are at their worst before telling someone. If you are thinking about hurting yourself, do not want to live or are frightened of what you might do, getting help is important.

In an emergency

Do not face it alone

If you think you may hurt yourself or take your own life, or the situation is otherwise critical, call 113 in Norway.

If you need urgent help but there is no immediate threat to life or health, you can call the out-of-hours medical service on 116 117.

You can ask for help before an emergency

Signs that are important to take seriously

You feel you cannot carry on

If you have thoughts about not wanting to live, wishing you could disappear or being unable to see a way forward, you deserve help.

You think about hurting yourself

If you want to hurt yourself, already do so or worry that you might, it is important to tell someone.

The thoughts take up more and more space

You do not have to wait for an emergency. If painful thoughts get stronger, happen more often or make daily life difficult, you can ask for help now.

You feel you are losing control

If you are frightened of what you might do to yourself or do not feel safe alone, you need help immediately.

A first step

Tell one person how you are really feeling

It could be a parent, another adult you trust, a school nurse, GP or someone at a youth health clinic.

You do not need to explain everything. It is enough to say that you are struggling and need help.

“Things have been much harder than I have been able to say. I need you to stay with me and help me get support.”

You can also speak to someone anonymously

Help is available even if you do not know whom to contact

When you need understanding and hope

You can also read a letter at Bli litt til

At Bli litt til, you can read anonymous letters from people who have experienced difficult periods, loneliness, grief or other hardships. Sometimes recognising your experience in someone else's words can help.

Bli litt til is a place for recognition and hope. It is not a support or crisis service. If you need help now, use the services listed above.
